The story of a name

Behind the Name

a return to what is irreplaceably human

Elsie

A name borrowed from a lodge in Alaska.

Elsie was a name given to me in honor of a woman who settled land in Alaska and ran the lodge where my parents stayed during their honeymoon. I still have a postcard Elsie wrote to my grandmother, Sheri, in August 1992 from her lodge.

In it, she wrote about my parents' stay — a small, tangible piece of another time and place. To me, it represents something we all seem to crave: a return to what is irreplaceably human.

Ephemerals

Beauty meant to be enjoyed in the present.

Ephemerals is an ode to beauty that is meant to be enjoyed in the present. In art, ephemeral describes something beautiful because it is fleeting — here for a moment, and then gone. But perhaps that is what makes it meaningful.

Your wedding day. The flowers you received at graduation. The roses from a proposal. A handwritten note from a friend. These fleeting moments become treasured because they mark something deeper: connection, celebration, love, and the people who make our lives beautiful.

Elsie Ephemerals is a celebration of those moments — the little pieces of beauty we get to hold onto, even after the moment itself has passed.
